NAOMI CHILLET
Architect / Artist
Born in Guadeloupe, raised in Brazil; of French and Cameroonian origin, my cultural background and
Afro-Brazilian influences represent an integral part of my aspirations. Indeed, I studied architecture between Paris
and Buenos Aires, while nurturing my passion for design, photography and travel.
My main motivation is to build a space for people with multiple cultures to debate, express themselves and represent them. To give forms, colors, voices for people of various origins.
The cultural issue and heritage are matters that I talk about. Through my plastic works, writings and performances, I question the mix (métissage), its place today in a society that seeks to define everything that exists to categorize it.
What about the in-between ?
People with multiple roots, with numerous experiences ?
Whether it is architecture or photography, my quest for identity aims to confront the citizens of this world with the importance of culture, the preciousness of exchanges and the preservation of ancestral practices so that they enrich our future and perspectives or, just interrogate them. To relearn what we had already perceived and to understand from exchanges that the reality of one is not so far from that of the other.
In that case, how to approach it ?
Nãoko Studio aims to offer a creative/aesthetic approach based on speech, culture and exchange. Build consciously as much by the ecological aspect, as by the spread of open-mindedness on new and old cultures.
This exploration of the cultural blur is also materialized by the learning process, the quest for the self, our origins through plastic works, photography, narration and travel.
